Assistant CoachKrista Rice
Krista Rice joined coach Mike Gawlik’s staff as an assistant coach in March, 2016, and is entering her third season on staff.
Rice’s main responsibilities with the Chippewas are recruiting, along with training blocking and middle attacking. Off the court, she organizes and administers the program’s camps and clinics, as well as team scheduling, and the Chippewas’ community service effort.
Rice, a Michigan native, served as an assistant coach at Toledo during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and previously as a volunteer assistant coach at Michigan State, and as the first assistant at NAIA Davenport.
At Michigan State, Rice was part of a coaching staff that led the Spartans to back-to-back NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and she worked directly with Alexis Mathews, who earned honorable mention All-America honors.
Rice was a four-year starter at middle blocker at Kent State from 2005-08. She is Grand Rapids native and a 2005 graduate of East Kentwood High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from Kent State in 2009.
She serves on the American Volleyball Coaches Association Assistant Coaches Committee and she has coached at both the club and high school level for years.
Matthew DePauw joined coach Mike Gawlik’s staff as an assistant coach in August, 2018.
Prior to his arrival at CMU, DePauw spent four years as a volunteer student coach with the women’s program at Clarke University in Iowa and also coached at Wahlert Catholic High School in Iowa and with VC United, a club program in Loves Park, Ill.
He has also led various camps on both the high school and collegiate levels.
DePauw was a four-year starter at setter and two-year captain for the Clarke men’s team. He ranks second in program history with 3,957 assists and eighth with 713 digs. In 2017, he earned Academic All-America honors and was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
DePauw earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarke in 2017.
